Product definition

Sorbitol (Sorbitol solution, Sorbitol Powder) is a polyol natural sweetener, also known as sorbitol, obtained from glucose through a reducing reaction. Sorbitol is widely used as an alternative sugar and sweetener in the food and drug industry because its sweetness is similar to sucrose, and its low calorie content does not lead to elevated blood glucose levels, and is suitable for diabetics and people pursuing low-calorie foods.

Product Functional Category and Applications

1. Compared with synthetic sweeteners, sorbitol has a more natural taste sensation and can provide sweetness similar to sugar for food and drink.

2. The sweetness of sorbitol is close to that of sucrose, but the calorie content is relatively low, so it can be used as an alternative sugar for low-calorie foods.

3. Sorbitol is not quickly absorbed during the digestion process and will not cause a sharp rise in blood sugar, so it is suitable for diabetic patients and people who need to control their blood sugar.

4. In cosmetics, sorbitol has good moisturizing performance, which helps to maintain the skin moist and comfortable.

5. Under high temperature conditions, sorbitol is relatively stable and suitable for high temperature processing processes such as baking, cooking and frying. It is recognized as food additives by the food regulatory authorities of many countries and regions, and its safety is highly recognized.

常见问题 (Frequently Asked Questions)

Particle size, flow behaviour and choosing powder or syrup

How does sorbitol powder fine grade differ from coarse and ultrafine?

The three grades are separated by particle size. Coarse powder has large, free-flowing particles for direct compression and candy. Fine grade sits in the middle, balancing dissolution and flow. Ultrafine is for fast dissolution or a smooth mouthfeel. Mesh ranges are stated in the datasheet.

When should I use sorbitol powder fine grade instead of syrup?

Dry formulations such as tablets, powders, chewing gum and chocolate use the powder. Water-based systems such as syrups, toothpaste and lotions dose the 70% syrup more easily. The two forms are interchangeable in many recipes once solids are recalculated.

What does sorbitol powder fine grade do in personal care products?

It works as a humectant and texture aid in toothpaste, hair care and baby care formulations, and is convenient for dry premixes. Adjust the dose for the water content of the recipe.

What if the powder absorbs moisture and cakes?

Sorbitol is mildly hygroscopic, so resealing opened bags and storing at low humidity is the main way to limit caking. Whether caked powder can still be used is a call for your own quality procedure — it depends on how much moisture was taken up, the contamination risk and your release criteria. This page does not make that call.

Where can I confirm the current specification?

This page is a product information note. Particle size, assay and packaging follow the current datasheet from sales, which you can request through the enquiry form.
